Tai is now owned by Descartes

On August 24, 2026, Descartes Systems Group acquired Tai for about US$100 million in cash. Descartes already owns Aljex, another broker TMS, plus MacroPoint, MyCarrierPortal and 3GTMS. As of September 10, 2026, Descartes hasn’t said publicly how Tai’s pricing or roadmap will change, or whether Tai and Aljex will combine. We cover what Tai customers can check now in this post on the acquisition.

Where Tai TMS is strong

Tai has spent 20+ years building for one buyer, freight brokers and 3PLs. Its strongest ground is LTL.

  • LTL depth. Direct LTL carrier rating and dispatch through API and EDI connections. A Capterra reviewer wrote “The LTL functionality is fantastic.”
  • Modes beyond FTL. Truckload, LTL, drayage and cross-border in one system.
  • AI that makes calls. The Tai Track and Trace Agent, launched April 13, 2026, is a voice agent that calls drivers, logs location and ETA, and moves loads to Delivered. It’s included for all Tai customers. Descartes’s announcement adds that Tai’s agents extract quote requests from inbound emails and audit carrier invoices against rate confirmations.
  • Service on every tier. The Tai pricing page lists a branded client portal, partner integrations, a dedicated CSM, a dedicated launch and QBRs on all plans.
  • Automations and reporting. Another reviewer wrote “The Workflow Automations and Custom reports allow us to create efficiencies.”

Common complaints on Capterra include “Too many bugs with slow support resolution,” “The cost is a little high,” and “There is currently no parcel shipping option.” Our Tai TMS alternatives page covers other options.

Where FreightVero is different

No seat or shipment caps to model

Tai Growth is $995/mo for 2 staff logins and 200 shipments, with overage pricing above that. FreightVero Starter is $349/mo for 5 users and 250 loads, and Growth is $749/mo for 15 users and unlimited loads. For 12 staff logins, Tai’s published price is $4,595/mo on Premium+, with 1,200 included shipments. FreightVero Scale, with unlimited users, starts at $1,500/mo. See FreightVero pricing.

Checkpoints enforced at the database level, not a UI setting

Every FreightVero status change runs through one database function. The status column is protected from direct edits.

  • Alerted: active carrier, approved compliance status on the carrier record, driver and truck details, tracking accepted.
  • Carrier Dispatched: latest rate con version signed, with the signed copy uploaded. A rate change after signature needs a new signature.
  • Freight On Board: BOL and freight photos.
  • Delivered: POD plus the signer’s first and last name.

Tai offers workflow automations, and many TMSs let you mark documents as required. We haven’t tested Tai’s settings, so ask in the demo where the rule lives. See how FreightVero’s checkpoints work.

Contract terms

Tai’s about page says “No Lock-In.” Its terms and conditions say “After the initial term, the agreement will auto-renew in perpetuity,” and customers must cancel “at least sixty (60) days prior to the beginning of each Renewal Term.” FreightVero’s contract terms are discussed on the demo call.

Custom builds, and where AI stands

FreightVero offers custom TMS development. The Bronco Logistics build went from its first database migration on Aug 28, 2026 to live Load Market tracking on Sept 3, 2026. On AI, Tai is ahead: its voice agent is live and included. FreightVero’s AI load intake is live, and its AI agent program is live from $1,995/mo.

Switching from Tai TMS

  • Find your renewal date first. Tai needs cancellation at least 60 days before each renewal term. Miss the window and the agreement renews.
  • Records. Customers and carriers import into FreightVero from CSV. There’s no open-load import, so close in-flight loads in Tai.
  • LTL. FreightVero has no LTL rating or direct LTL carrier connections. If LTL is a real share of your freight, keep it in Tai or choose another TMS.
  • Client logins. Tai includes a branded client portal. FreightVero’s customer portal is in early access.
  • Integrations. DAT, Truckstop and EDI are planned in FreightVero. QuickBooks Online is in development.

We scope every move on a demo call and don’t publish an implementation timeline. The TMS migration page covers what to prepare.

Frequently asked questions

Will Descartes merge Tai and Aljex?

Descartes hasn't said. As of September 10, 2026, public announcements confirm the purchase, the roughly US$100 million price and that Descartes also owns Aljex. They don't cover plans for pricing, roadmap or product consolidation. If that matters to you, ask your Tai account team in writing before your next renewal notice date.

What does Tai count as a shipment?

Tai's terms define billable "TMS Shipment Transactions" by load status. Each plan includes a set number, from 200 on Growth to 2,500 on Pro, with overage pricing above that. Ask Tai which statuses count, including cancelled loads, before you model your monthly cost.

Who built Tai's Track and Trace Agent?

Tai launched the Track and Trace Agent on April 13, 2026, and its early access was "powered by CloneOps.ai." CloneOps also powers BrokerPro AI. Tai says the agent is included for all customers, runs 24/7 and works in multiple languages.

Does FreightVero automate check calls?

Not yet. FreightVero's live tracking runs through Load Market: the driver accepts a request on their phone, and the load shows position and an ETA checked against the carrier's appointment in green, yellow or red. Tracking that goes quiet for 45 minutes gets flagged. The tracking agent is live and works in writing.
