Where McLeod is strong

McLeod Software has sold transportation software since 1985 and calls its product “The Most Complete Transportation Management System.” Tom McLeod founded the company and still runs it as President and CEO.

  • Depth across the business. PowerBroker for brokerage, LoadMaster for truckload carriers, LoadMaster LTL, DocumentPower for imaging, integrated GL, AR and AP accounting, carrier and customer portals, and MPact for pricing and bid management.
  • Integrations in volume. McLeod cites “Over 260 off-the-shelf, fully tested integrations backed by more than 140 Certified Partners.” The PowerBroker integrations page names DAT, Truckstop, MacroPoint, project44, FourKites, RMIS, Highway, Triumph, Greenscreens and QuickBooks, among others.
  • Deployment choice. McLeod software can run on-premise, in a cloud environment the customer manages, or in McLeod’s own hosted cloud.
  • Stability. Privately held, “owned entirely by the founder and management team,” with “no outside investors.” McLeod calls itself “profitable, stable, debt free,” has 570+ employees and claims a 96% customer retention rate over the last 40 years.
  • AI through products and partners. RespondAI generates quotes or orders from incoming emails. On August 5, 2026, McLeod announced Augment’s “Augie” inside PowerBroker’s Digital Freight Matching for carrier selection, calls and emails, rate negotiation, carrier validation and status updates. CRST is among the first live customers.

LoadMaster reviewers on Capterra call it “one of the most all-encompassing TMS systems” and say “You can pretty much run any report you need.” Others wrote “The interface seemed very outdated” and “It is very very expensive.” Our McLeod alternatives page covers other options.

Where FreightVero is different

Published pricing

McLeod doesn’t publish prices, and we won’t guess. FreightVero publishes three plans: Starter at $349/mo for 5 users and 250 loads, Growth at $749/mo for 15 users and unlimited loads, and Scale from $1,500/mo with unlimited users. No plan charges per load, so you can budget before the first call. Details are on the pricing page.

Four rules enforced at the database level, not a UI setting

McLeod offers no-code visual workflow design and dynamic alerts. FreightVero puts its core load rules in the database, so every status change runs through one function no matter which screen or integration asks for it.

  • Alerted: active carrier, approved compliance status on the carrier record, driver and truck details, tracking accepted.
  • Carrier Dispatched: latest rate con version signed, with the signed copy uploaded.
  • Freight On Board: BOL and freight photos.
  • Delivered: POD plus the signer’s first and last name.

We haven’t tested how McLeod’s workflow tools can be set up to block these moves, so ask in your demo. See how the checkpoints work.

A narrower product

FreightVero doesn’t have McLeod’s breadth. There’s no general ledger, no AR or AP, no EDI, no carrier operations module and no on-premise option. What’s live is a broker TMS: load board, load entry, carrier dispatch with swap history, versioned rate cons on your letterhead, documents, Load Market tracking with alerts, a billing queue with customer billing rules, reports and an append-only audit log.

Custom development and agents

For brokerages that want a system built around their own process, FreightVero offers custom TMS development. The Bronco Logistics build went from its first database migration on Aug 28, 2026 to live Load Market tracking on Sept 3, 2026. The AI agent program is live from $1,995/mo and works alongside the systems a brokerage already runs. Ask on a call whether your setup fits the early access scope.

Pricing compared

McLeod doesn’t publish pricing on its site or on review listings. The rows show what each vendor makes public, not an estimate.

Switching from McLeod

A McLeod shop usually runs more than brokerage in it. Map what you use before you talk to any vendor.

  • Accounting. If GL, AR and AP live in McLeod, FreightVero won’t replace them. It has a billing queue, not an accounting system. QuickBooks Online integration is in development.
  • Carrier operations. LoadMaster users should keep a carrier system. FreightVero’s carrier TMS is in early access.
  • EDI and integrations. EDI, DAT, Truckstop, MacroPoint, project44 and RMIS are planned in FreightVero, not live.
  • Records. Customers and carriers import from CSV. There’s no open-load import.
  • Contract. McLeod’s terms aren’t public. Check your agreement’s renewal and notice clauses.

We scope every move on a demo call and don’t publish an implementation timeline. The TMS migration page covers what to prepare.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between McLeod PowerBroker and LoadMaster?

PowerBroker is McLeod's freight brokerage and logistics TMS for brokers and 3PLs. LoadMaster is its dispatch and operations TMS for truckload carriers, and LoadMaster LTL covers LTL carriers. A company running both brokerage and trucks may use both, alongside McLeod's accounting and DocumentPower imaging.

What is McLeod RespondAI?

RespondAI is part of McLeod's Automation and AI suite. McLeod describes it as intelligent communication tools that generate quotes or initiate orders directly from incoming emails. The same suite includes automated field population, document capture, dynamic alerts and detention tracking.

Can FreightVero run on our own servers?

No. FreightVero runs as a hosted cloud product, with each company's data isolated at the database level through row-level security on every table. There's no on-premise version. If self-hosting is a hard requirement, McLeod's on-premise and customer-hosted cloud options fit better.

Why do McLeod reviews mostly cover LoadMaster?

McLeod's Capterra reviews sit under LoadMaster, the carrier product, which had 16 reviews and a 3.7/5 rating as of September 10, 2026. PowerBroker has no separate Capterra or G2 page. Ask McLeod for broker references running PowerBroker at a size similar to yours.
